Johanna Thompson is an artist residing in Toronto. Through her practice, she confronts anxieties concerning the ephemeral nature of memory. She is interested in the remembering self and photography’s role in establishing a narrative of lived experiences. Much of her work stems from a melancholic longing for the past, and is fuelled by a desire to understand how memory operates and how our personal histories are communicated through sentimental objects. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Photography degree from NSCAD University in 2014. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts degree at York University.
